What are the best ten minute live action shorts you have seen? I am getting ready to make a short and I want to study the creme of the crop in detail.

I've gotten a lot of great comments on my first short, INVITATION (http://www.nrestudios.com/archive/video/invitation.mp4). You're welcome to download and decide for yourself.

From the department of "different strokes for different folks", if you go ahead and click on that, you may love it, but then again, you may want those 5 minutes of your life back. Personally, I found it a bore and of no merit (ok, first 30 seconds or so were intriguing, but then it all went downhill, IMVHO). YMMV.

The best short that I have seen was either Torn or The Fight Within. Hey now that I think about it they both can be found here: www.itchyhousefilms.com

That was awesome! Man I wish I could shoot at 500fps. Don't know what I would do, but I would figure something out.

I have to agree with you. I thought it was a steaming pile of crap. It was film school shi*. It reminds me of the crap Aronofsky throws out there. Experimental, masturbatory, pretentious crap with no real purpose.

And people who use "masturbatory" are pretentious in my book...

Prey Alone is a good one...it's on YT.

And then there was a Batman vs. Predator one...for a short with the budget it had, it was really well-done.

Yeah, I'd have to agree that Prey Alone is pretty damned good...as is The Ore.

The best shorts I have seen are on a few compilation DVDs. Shooting People had one a few years ago that had some amazing shorts and there is some really nice ones on the manhattan short film fest DVD. http://www.msfilmfest.com/info.html
They seem to have major crews on most of them though. The Sony series had some really good ones too. A few of the shorts repeated on some of the DVDs I have seen and I think they are all international.

Some of these films are really quite brilliant. God, I feel small. From where I am standing, to create something along those lines of calibre seems to be a distant reality.
