I'm looking to make short indie movies, ranging from all sorts of genres both indoor and outdoor. This would also be the first camera I actually own.

My questions are:
How much better low-light capabilities does the DVX100 have?
I really like the fact that the HV20 can shoot in 24p HD, but would I need/want more manual control that the DVX offers?

Thanks.

Yes. Being able to make adjustments when you need it is an important factor in getting your film to look like what you want. The HV20 can never compete on the same level as the DVX. It seems to position itself as a good introduction to budget filmmakers but if you can afford it, definitely go DVX or even A1.

The XH A1 probably offers the best from both worlds. The HV20 can be controlled manually but not as easily as the DVX100. And you can not save presets for different looks on the HV20. It has settings for color, sharpness, contrast and brightness however.
