View Full Version : What lens would you most like to see?

Now, I'm not talking about something like a 1000mm 2.8 or a 200 f/1.4, but realistically what lens would you most like to see made and available for your shooting system?

I was thinking this morning that my two most used lenses for events have really become my 17-55 DX f/2.8 and 28-70 f/2.8 but when I am travelling or just bumming about I shoot my 18-70 3.5-4.6 because it is lightweight and sharp.

So my most desired lens would be a 17-70 f/2.8 that is sharp throughout and preferably not a DX lens (although I have no intention of going FF for three years, even if Nikon releases it tomorrow)

So... what would you like to see available for your system?

Since we're not talking about reality Nikon could throw VR into that thing also for me :)

I think a 17-120 f/2.8 would be stinkin' awesome!

I think that would be 2' long and weigh 6lbs :)

I would take one though...

Yeah, having a big lens doesn't bug me too much... but just think how sharp that lens could be. mmm... mmm...

I'd like a 10-300mm f/1.4. I'd be set for life.

That is pretty much impossible...

Think of it like this: the 300mm 2.8 is massive, the 200mm f/2 is bigger...

So in the realm of realism...

Okay, so maybe these lenses do exist...but they're not exactly affordable. I particularly would love to own the former.

I know. But I can always dream.

i'd realistically like a 28mm equivalent 1.4 pancake lens. I'd be happy with 1.8. And at a reasonable price... pentax has the closest thing to this from what i've seen but its like 40mm and i can't remember the f-stop.

12-80 f2.8 would be great I think my Sigma 12-24 is fatastic, it would be great if I could leave it on my D200 and take it all the way to around 75mm

I'd go for a 12-100mm F1.8(Fantasy)

Right now, I'm looking at a Nikkor 17-35mm F2.8, but it's going to cost a lot of moolah..

KEH has a used one for $800.

It's a nice lens but my 17-55 covers that range (although not as sharp... no where as sharp actually).

You could also lose 3mm and go for that 20-35mm 2.8 as those are available for $500.

Why won't Nikon make that damned kit lens, 18-70 in a constant 2.8... I want it really bad.

Ah, I see.

A used one where I live would cost me approx S$1300. I was actually looking at the 18-35, as opposed to the 20-35. What do you think?

The 17-35 is the best landscape lens I have ever used.

I don't know the 18-35... but the D50 kit lens, the 18-55mm is like having a f/3.5 prime (once you move the zoom it does weird things).

18-55mm eh.. I've only used the 18-70 DX though..
