I'm going to NYC for a week in mid April... will have lots of downtime. I've only been to the Big Apple once before and this time i'd really like to maximize my trip and learn something useful for the craft of video/film production.
Anyone know of a good one or two day seminar or workshop? I'm interested in learning/experiencing more about lighting, videography, HD production, Final Cut editing, After Effects, loop-based music creation, sound design, scriptwriting.... yadda yadda... : ) Of course not all in once course : )

And of course, i'll catch a show or two on Broadway : )

I wonder if a trip to B&H or Abel Cine Tech would be fruitful ?

Thanks for your input.

You could take a look at NYU, but, as far as I know, the short courses are only offered in the summer. There's also the NY film academy. You could also try an FMC, I think they have some in NY.

Other stuff you might want to do, Go to the Museum of television and radio, take the NBC tour (it's great), Try to get stand-by tickets to letterman, Try to get stand-by tickets for Conan, Don't see Tarzan, SEE Avenue Q!!! Go to Il Vagabondo if you like italian!

Have fun!

B&h is definitely worth it, its like my second home. But prepare to drool.

Also check out the Museum of the Moving image. its a 2buck train to queens. They might even be showing a film with the director there. they do that all the time. "babel and pan labrinth" http://www.movingimage.us/site/site.php

The anothology has cool stuff sometimes.
