DVX evolution, looking back . ..

hi everybody!

haven't been around since a long time. i was a proud and happy DVX owner, from the very first PAL model (got sold some 1.5-2 years ago). i made practically everything with this camera. features, docus, TV reportage, news. name it.
since it's sold, i kept on shooting with rented A and B models. then some time ago i came across a very same model as i had, which friend of mine bought at the same time.
i was wondering for a while if i see right, but now i have no doubts -- the look of the first model beats to death the coming A and B models. the later ones deliver some over saturated, gummy-bear like color, which by cranking down chroma to -7 helps a bit, but not totally. what a pity. i can only guess that some traditional video-camera users were complaining on the low-saturated first-DVX, which cause this unfortunate update.

...now shooting with an HVX, and while i really love lots of things about it, the LCD screen is pretty difficult. :( i find myself missing the happy days of progressive SD, DV, from some 3-4 years ago.

dude IMO the A B Models were what the dvx100 SHOUDL have been in the first place..
Side by side, the image of the latter 2 completely blows the ol 100 out of the water.. the main difference being the 12bit RGB porocessor and increased resolution in the LCDs (focus peak)
IN addition, the additional gamma curves make for an extended lifespan and verstatility fo the unit itself..

I regularly shoot stage shows and performances, and when runnign both cams in direct light of par cans and scanners and fluctuating brightness as well as motion, the 100a/b records all tehse without skipping a beat, cleanly and without chromatic abherations.. however, with the ol 100, purples and blues from these lighting configurations are blown out, washed out and cause extensive colour spill

dont get me wrong the 10 is still a brilliant camera, but beside the newer 2, it cannot be compared.. hell, you cannot even match the 2 perfectly... despite using teh same gamma configurations and scene file settings.. its physically impossible becuiase of the RGB processing (100 doesnt have this u see) so even if u "dumb down" the 100a it stil wont be identical

Padre, i totally agree , the firmware upgrades are a must. the focus peak, the extra gamma curves, the better build -- i just totally miss the look i got from my old 100. it had a character that is lost in the new models. it is probably matter of taste. and i talk mostly about saturation and generally how the camera reacts to colors. i believe something also changed with the lens. the A and B looks more "nothing special" to me.
