Hey,
How was the effect at the beginning of this clip created?

You mean the reddish/orange glow thing looks like overexposed film? There are probably plugins that do just that, but you could mimic it by either using elements created in photoshop of by using a solid layer in AE with a mask that moves and or chages shape over time. Put in big feather on the mask or nest in in another comp and use fast blur, and you get that look.

Why not ask the creator of the film.

Usually people just buy some stock footage of these overexposed film elements and then just put the blending mode to screen or luma. Artbeats is probably the most popular for selling this type of footage.

you could acheive something to that effect by using stock lense flares or light effects from the knoll light factory, or other similar plugin for AE. just adjust the color of the falre to what you want and change its center. .. or you could make some simple layers in Photoshop and drop them in with vairied opacity and a little transform keyframing and such.

That's what I ended up doing....It's not perfect but it looks somewhat believable.....I'll post it when I'm done...
