OK, I've been having some DVD issues lately. Everything I've personally burned and tested seems to work just fine, although lately I've been having more complaints of a disc experiencing random skipping or playback problems. I am wondering if this has to do the media I am using - Memorex, TDK, etc.?

I have heard Tayo-yuden or something like that makes great media; where can I order this or find out which brands currently are stocking media produced from this plant?

Also - I was wondering, could this issue be my burner instead? It is only a couple years old. Or - could it be neither burner nor media and something else?

Thanks for the help.

do some tests to find out exactly what is the problem, you have three possibilities:

(1) Software
(2) Hardware
(3) Media

To eleminate this you need to conduct some systematic tests to weed out the real problem:

(1) Try out different softwares (perphas after a new clean OS installation)
Make sure your ASPI layer is working correcly : download the ASPI checker

(2) Try burning the same project on a different drive (if you have access to one) using the same workflow and software that you normally use, if your hardware is at fault they they will show up here, if you get the same results then its not hardware related.

(3) Try out different medias, see if this is the case

I might end up doing that, but DVD burners are so cheap nowadays... I guess I'm just wondering, without doing all the diagnostic work, about some of the questions above - and the burnable media (is this not good media to be using)?

Download this media ID'er and then look it up in the charts:

Yes DVD media has a quality range, so choose wisely.

Also DVD - Ritek (if thats how your spell it) seem to be the best, someone once told me the darker the dye the better they are.
