Thanks for sharing your photos here, they're quite nice. I love the first one, and I think it would be even better if the couple was more apparent..seems like there's a bit of detail lost.

I hadn't even thought of that, but you're right; they either need to be more pronounced or not there at all. The original file has a bit more shadow detail, so I could either recover it, or paint them out entirely.

As for the general "softness" my kit lens goes between f3.5-f5.6. So handheld was very difficult in low light, and I got some blurriness. The lens is also inherently soft wide open. I should have brought better glass, but I only intended to take snapshots.

Thanks! I shot them as JPEGs then did a little shadow/highlight in Photoshop, if necessary, so no--no HDR. Generally I added contrast rather than reducing it, actually, because the lighting was very even.
