I have footage shot on both my 4 GB card, purchased in December and my new 8 GB card, the Panny rebate card. I can transfer the data to my laptop via USB without problems, but the laptop (and the P2 reader and P2 card manager) will not recognize the 8 GB card when I plug it into the PCMCIA slot. The 4 GB card reads fine.
When I go to Device Manager under Control Panel/System, the 4 GB is recognized, and the 8 GB says "This Device Cannot Start (Code 10)."
Is there a driver for the 8 versus the 4 I need to install to make this work?
Thanks,

Perhaps. There were some firmware updates announced when the 8GB cards came out. Go to the "useful links" thread and follow it to the firmware update site and make sure your firmware and drivers are all up to date.

I would expect the card to already have the latest firmware, it hasn't changed in months. More likely, you need an updated version of the P2 drivers for Windows.

I think I had this problem last summer and i had to wait for the texas instrument guys to spit out new drivers for the PCMCIA slot. After that the laptop finally find the 8 gig p2 card and it worked like a charm. Im still abit worried that hp is slow on supporting 16gig p2 and so on.
Good luck!

I just had this same problem with one of my 4GB cards. I lost the footage on it because I had to reformat the card so it would start working again. I'm a Mac guy so I have no way to do the firmware update for the P2 cards. Panasonic really needs to get on making a way for Mac users to update Panasonic products right away.

Success!
I loaded all the most recent drivers from the "useful links" thread and all is well. I don't know why the 8 GB card was not recognizable versus the 4 GB. Luckily, I didn't lose any of my footage because I was able to transfer it via USB directly from the camera.
Thanks to everyone for the quick replies. Now to shoot more of the unusual animals of Western Australia!
