So several days ago I downloaded all the Dramafest entries and today I watched on called "Trouble with Hearts". WTF? I looked for any discussions on it and can't find any.

'Cause they were banned for making a mockery of a film? What I caught on Youtube ended with Darth Vader and a shotgun.

I wish Barry and Co would give explanations of what's banned and why instead of people, films and threads just disappearing in the night, Godfather style.

Although internal workings are not always discussed with the membership at large, this issue probably does merit at least a statement. Ideally Barry_S and/or Jarred would make the statement, but since it's being discussed already, I'll just fill you in a bit on what happened. We specify in the festival that no copyrighted elements are to be used unless you, the filmmaker, own the copyright to all those elements. In "The Trouble With Hearts" there were at least three blatant copyright violations. All films with copyright violations will be, at the bare minimum, disqualified from the fest. As for further action, that's up to the moderators to decide which ones' threads get removed and such. Ultimate decisions on fest questions are made by Barry_S and Jarred.

yeh but it was really funny.
It was either planned to be a mockery from the start or they got half way through the film in editing and thought 'this isnt working, lets take the piss'.
Personally I loved it; Im really glad I got a d/l to keep before the mods removed it. :-)
Gob bless the internet. I'll be showng this one to all my mates.

Well, it was obviously a joke entry, but it was pulled because of significant copyright infringement and when I checked the users associated with the film, they had just registered and it was obvious the whole thing was a joke from their posts. So, probably either sockpuppets from some of our users, or buddies that got recruited for a joke, or just a drive by. In short, a big mess of spam. DVXFest is not YouTube and a film might be funny, but totally inappropriate because of rule violations and non-compliance with the fest theme. For future fests we'll be pre-screening, but the goal will will always be for us to show 100% of submissions and to have 100% competing. But it's up to the submitting filmmakers to follow our (minimal) rules, so it's their choice if they want their film in DVXFest. Films that fall outside of DVXFest are always welcome in the User Films section. Thanks.
