Hello all,
wondering what you guys are using to compress hd 1920 x 1080 (intro loops for your dvd production.
I am trying the h264 quicktime compressor but it crashes, not sure if it is only my machine, i am on a pc.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Kai
Eventually i will re export my capture hd footage to blu ray and hd dvd, but for now i want to finish a sd dvd.
The problem is i want to save hard drive space, i know hard drives are cheap but my comp is already full with four and my dvd burner so i would prefer to encode and store for later use for various formats.
i checked some hd encoder but damn some prices are way too high. like mainconcept charges 449 plus the hvx 200 plugin for 439 .. total way too much :)

got a fix that seems to work well. i downloaded the windows encoder and compressed my 1.75 gig 10 second loop to a small 7 megs size.
side by side , the video clips are the same. These are intro loops with no video but after effects compositions for titling chapters.

Haven't tried with video yet but got too much chapters (128 chapters at 1.75 gigs hehehe now you understand why i needed to compress them a bit) to encode right now but definitely will try it later for sure.

You can specify any size you want in the properties dialogue before you encoder your final output file.

If you're creating an SD dvd, its silly to work in HD res, just to be blunt. You'll save yourself a ton of space.. .
Also, for dvd you'll have to encode your files to MPEG2, not windows media.

we captured in hd so we could also create other hd projects such as the blu ray and hd dvd formats. just completing the sd for now, cause there is still a good market for it.
i forked the money for the production studio instead and now i will be able to shift from premiere to after effects without resaving avi lossless files format, but for quick menus wihtout videos i think that the encoder works great, like i said side by side for both files, there was no difference but then again there was no video images to test the colors.
kyle, love your stuff, your website and the creation you make is just totally insane and great. Where do you get the inspiration for it?

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.
Usually its dictated by the client, and how crazy they'll let me go. Most techniques and styles just come from experimentation & testing ie: i'll come up with a cool look and find ways to apply it to different projects/clients, etc. Other times, a client will have in their mind exactly the look or style they're after.
