In theory, I should be able to play Canon XLH1 footage shot 50i back on my Sony M10P, right? I know about the issues with 25F, but this is 50i...
When I do play it back, it plays ok for the most part, but occaisionally the timecode freezes, then restarts a second or so later. The image SEEMS to be continuous, but I'm going to double check that. Is this what an HDV dropout looks like?
I need to know as the post house only has Sony gear. My m10P may have worn heads, haven't seen a problem in DV but then maybe without having to decode the long GOP it might be a bit more forgiving for lower signal level coming off the heads. My understanding is that there is an RF booster circuitry that compensates for lower levels as heads wear, until it can't anymore.
I've put a head cleaner through both the deck and the camera, the camera plays back footage fine. I could loan the post house the camera except I'm not in the same town.
Anybody shed any light on the above? Its a little urgent to, so if you could copy any reply to my direct email richkick(replacewithreal(at)bigpond.com. Even if people can tell me they've been happily digitizing 50i/60i from Sony decks, I'll be happy...
Thanks.
