I am recording in 720P 24N and I see that my time code is doing things I am not used to. It is creating clips that end on impossible video frame #s like :47. But even weirder is the fact that the next clip recorded will start with the same minutes and seconds but a smaller frame value than the previous ending frame like :40.

Can anyone help me understand this?

I know what's happening. It's normal. With 24p, it flags the original 24 frames, but then adds in extra frames to make up the 60fps video stream, by using a process called "pulldown". You have to use your NLE's software to strip out the pulldown (extra frames).

What you really want to use is 24pA, which most NLE's can strip down (advanced pulldown removal) when ingesting the footage. Or record in 24pN, the Native mode only records the 24frams, no pulldown involved.
