I have read about the various options for an HD on-camera monitor and the value of the Marshall. I have also read Barry's Focusing how to.
Has anyone successfully used their laptop (Mac or Windows) as a monitor for HVX200 HD recording? For instance, via DV Rack software.
Based on the threads, I'd assume that most Windows PC laptops lack decent GPUs and monitors for real time HVX200 HD monitoring. Macs laptops seem like they may work but it is because they cost more and thus have better HW.
Thanks in advance...

DV Rack works great as a field monitor for focusing. There can be a very slight delay, but there is more of a delay with HDV than there is with DVCPro HD. Typically, I have had only a fraction of a second delay from realtime sync. It is wonderful to focus on the laptop and be able to fine tune with waveform and vectorscopes.
Be forewarned about the activation problems for the software. Hopefully Adobe will have a non-Softwrap version of the software available soon. Just do a search on DV Rack Activation Bug and you should find detailed information on how big of a pain it can be to get the software activated.
DV Rack wont run on a Mac unless you have a Mactel, bootcamp, etc. Despite what others are saying, I have found the Marshall very hit and miss for shallow DOF work. I now use DVrack almost exclusively. It will even run on older laptops, I am selling my Dell 700m and it ran like a champ on that.

DV Rack, the best !!!
Any one know if there is still a dvxuser discount?
Activation is a pain but it is not hard. Uninstall any tryouts... install the app... download the updates, THEN activate.

Just a heads up... for DVCproHD, the cable limit is 15 feet without a repeater, for HDV you can go 25+ with some people reporting 75' with no repeater.
