Downconverting HD to SD with firestore

Ok, just about to purchase the HVX (was going to be the XHA1 but last minute change, which I dont think I'll regret).

I recognise you can down convert from HD to SD using p2 to mini-dv within the camera. I Presume this is better than merely direct to mini-dv for good frame rate conversion etc.
I was wondering if this is also possible using firewire to mini dv? I use Avid Adrenaline but dont have a HD board yet so wanted to make the most of the SD for the time being.

I think the HVX is set up for this only P2 to tape (but I may be wrong , there mght be a work around) I use a FS for HD work, even when the final project is being delivered SD. What I do is treat the MXF HD files as film rolls. Run them through a compressor (Sorenson or TMPGenc) and convert them to SD (using AVID codec) then a fast import (like back in the day when film was telecined to BetaSP before editing)

If you have a firestore, just shoot in DVCPro 50 and use it that way until you get an editor. I would also recommend a mac with FCP for a great editor. I used Avid for a few years, made the switch to mac when I got my HVX and fell in love with the workflow. I did some HD editing on my pc with Avid and it was fine, just like the ease of the mac myself.

:thumbup: I'm with senomar. Is there anyone who has had success playing back HD (1080 or 720) footage from the FireStore and recording a DV (standard def) version onto tape with the HVX? I have tried in Playback Mode but footage does not show . . . just a blue screen. I've tried to look for any Firewire settings that may need to be changed as well but have come up with nothing that works. Can anyone help? Barry?

I would love to figure this out if the workflow is possible. It would be so nice to accomplish this in-camera and not have to bring footage in first then export. Ugh.
