Yes, in the HVX200 users manual it talks about attaching a Firewire drive in 1394 Host Mode but that is only for copying P2 content to. You can not copy a video stream from the camera to a Firewire drive.
However, attaching that drive to a MacBook Pro and streaming it through the computer works!

Of course there have been definite answers -- the facts are well-known and have been kicked around ad nauseam. Answers can be found using the SEARCH feature.
Long story short, you can dump P2 card contents to a SBP2-compliant Firewire drive, but you can't record to such a drive live because the hard drive doesn't have the brains to interpret and decode the DV stream. For that, you need a DTE solution like the FS-100.
