Tried connecting my HVX to my Mac for easy file transfer and the cam does not come up as a drive (or two drives - for the two flash cards)
Mac has new OS on it.
Have set the HVX to 1394 device.
Using HVX DV out to firewire in on the Mac.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mick

Did you install the P2 drivers?

Are they on there? And do I just install them on the mac?
Mick
Just install them, they don't come with the Mac, they have to be added.

You do not need the P2 drivers if you have FCP.

You do if you want to be able to mount the P2 cards as removeable drives prior to ingesting their contents into FCP...

More importantly than drivers, have you used the Organize P2 Reel option in the FS-100? Then, you need to activate HDD mode and connect the FW cable to the other port. Only then can it show up on the desktop. I say this since you didn't mention specifically in your original post.

Actually you do. Without the P2 drivers installed, P2 cards will not mount as hard drives on your system. If they can't mount, FCP can't read them.

Not entirely accurate. If I just want to import P2 clips from the camera to FCP, I use the P2 Capture mode in FCP via Firewire. I do not have to have the P2 mounted as a drive if I don't want to. I have a Mac Pro, FCP 5.1, and have never loaded any Panasonic software, but I am getting clips into FCP just fine.
I agree, if you want to save the MXF files on HD, you would need to mount the P2 card as a drive.

Ok, FCP can NOT physically read a volume that is not mounted. You may think that's how it's working, but it's not. If FCP sees the data, it physically HAS to be on a mounted volume. There simply is no other way around it.
The moment your HVX is plugged into your Mac and turned on, it's mounted, period. There's no way to not mount it. Look at the HVX's LCD when you plug it into your Mac and turn it on. It'll flash "1394 Device" while talking to the Mac. Once it says "1394 Device Connected" it is in fact a mounted volume. There is simply no physical way around this.

My bad. I thought you were talking about the FS-100.

Ben, I think he's talking about live firewire capture, from MCR playback mode streaming to Log & Capture. In a circumstance like that you wouldn't need drivers.
You're right, not for live capture, no drivers needed. P2 has nothing to do with that.

okay I can load live in FCP but I can't seem to mount P2 cards on my MAC desktop in order to transfer the "tape". I have the drivers installed. Any thoughts?
What exactly are you doing to try to transfer the P2 data to tape?

no I'm trying to load footage to MAC via Firewire from the HVX. I can load live in FCP but the CAM/P2 cards are not mounting to my desktop .
Then you don't have the P2 drivers installed.

And what is your exact procedure when trying to mount the cards with the cam via firewire.
Have you gotten to the 1394 Connect screen on the HVX?

I put the HVX into 1394 Device Mode. I plug the firewire cable to the MAC. I don't get the 1394 Connect screen, but I can load live in FCP.

There is more to it than that.
After ensuring you are in IEEE 1394 mode (not IEEE HOST or USB2), put the camera into MCR mode, and once in MCR mode, press and hold the MODE button for another two seconds.

You have to go the MCR mode, and then hold the button down for about 3 seconds to get the connect 1394 screen.
It's pretty much set forth in detail in the manual.

Yep, works. Thanks!
