p2 to tape

Hey can anyone tell me how much quality is lost when I shoot something as p2 but then have to put it down to tape?....Ive heard a bunch of diffrent things and just want to be clear on how much quality is really lost.

Also I had to dump some P2 to a computer the other day and I had to do it with a fire wire but the files came into the computer in aa a MXF Ive not seen before and could not open any ideas on how to get them to work and to get them into yet again a diffrent computer?...

Hi, Taylor, what kind of tape you are referring to?

Are you talking about dubbing to the DV tape inside HVX itself.

In fact, I have a similar situation. I need to dub the HD (after edited by Avid) back to digi-beta, and I am not sure the best workflow to maintain the best quality yet with a low cost.

You know, I think a DVCPRO HD deck is very expensive for rental or just any kind of service.

What format of tape? If you go out to DVCPRO HD tape, then no quality loss. DV...LOADS of quality.

What edit system are you using? Have you not working with P2 footage before? Because it starts out in the MXF format...
