I contacted Sony today (31/Jan/2007) regarding the progressive problem and they have arranged to pick up my camera and return it within a week. They have said that the issue is resolved by software and that it can be fixed. So I will let you all know what the outcome is when I get the camera back.
Does anyone know of a good control test footage and settings to shoot before and after to compare, I still dont know the real reported problem and how it shows up, any ideas. This will help put minds to rest. if I can help with a before and after clip to see for ourselves if the issue has been resolved any help appreciated, as you can probably guess I am new to all this film look progressive stuff.

hi, I own V1E too and have the firmware update done under Silver Support. I had no much chance to go for shooting ever since, taken the bad weather into account.
I suggest you to look for posts at dvinfo.net, mostly Tony Tremble who posted a number of shots with the problem.
You can see there what the problem is all about.

From what I can gather from DVInfo, the issue shows up only in progressive mode, and is easier to see under gain. If the problem is truly "fixed", you should be able to put the camera on 18dB gain and toggle between interlaced/progressive and not see any smearing/loss of resolution when going to progressive.

As for the last "fix", Sony did do something to the firmware but people complained that the result was highly-aliased edges and a "marching ants" effect.
