Thank you for creating a wonderful hub for DV users.
Ive been lurking for a few weeks and reading all I can.
I have never owned a camera before. Although I have worked under contract with Lions Gate and a couple Indie Studios in the State. I have an IT Consulting firm. About a month ago I decided to sell my business and become an Action Motorsports film maker. yep. Never touched a camera.
So I havent slept in quite a while, staying up every night and learning all I can. Its just something I want to do. Not get rich at, just do.
So I dont expect users on these forums to hold my hand and make my movie for me.
But...
I did have a question regarding the settings on our pair of HVX200s.
We are shooting this weekend in Baja and Glamis sand dunes in Southern California and Mexico. Its motorsports (quads and buggies in action) and Im concerned about where in the world to start with getting the correct settings. We received our Cameras and gear today and have been shooting around the house and such. We cant seem to find the FS-100 Firestore in this state, we were going to try AZ on the way out this weekend to buy one. Chances are this first shoot will have to be on tape. I would to shoot at 480i 24PN in Cine mode. I am concerned about the white sand and the direct sunlight "washing" the frame.
Can anyone suggest additional settings I should make to this setup? Or if I should not use these settings at all.
The footage will be used in a docu style film overlaid with music tracks and narratives. Eventually I would like the ability to "Slow-mo" a number of the sequences.
This is ideally what our terrain will look like: (this pic has been chopped for contrast curves and saturation)

If anyone could give a few pointers on where to initially set this shot up I would really appreciate it. Were driving 14hrs each way for 1 day of shooting
We plan to do this 8 more times to get enough footage to put a trailer together and see if anyone is interested.

Ive learned so much from this and one other forum, Coming from a background of actionscripting, Cisco ACLs and Windowzzz
I also purchased a zigrig, fluid tripod with remote, some UV Filters, and various rollbar clamps for cameras, oh and few MACs
Thanks Again for any and all input.
