Well I had a doozy of a day/night yesterday. My wife (6 months pregnant) and 2 year old little girl were in a bad wreck and so we ended up at the hospital until about midnight last night. They're doing ok now, but let me go on record giving my endorsement of the new Nissan Maximas for safety. I had just gotten her a new one a couple months ago, and am so glad I did. This 16 year old kid T-Boned them on the passenger side and spun them around for about 50 feet and came to rest facing the other way in the middle of the road. He hit RIGHT where my 2 year old was strapped into her car seat. It completely mangled her door, but with those steel safety zones and side curtain airbags, she (my little girl) made it out without a scratch. Her window blew out and landed about 20 feet from the car, so she had a bunch of glass in her lap, but that was it. I'm so thankful for those airbags. She was pretty freaked apparently, but is doing fine now.

The wifey ended up at the hospital because she started having bad pains and contractions after the wreck (yikes, i'm not ready for the other kid yet!). They monitored and did a bunch of tests and everything looks ok for now.

Not too sure why I decided to write this, other than to say GET YOUR WIFE AND KIDS A SAFE CAR AND INVEST IN A HIGH QUALITY CAR SEAT FOR THE KIDDOS! I'm thoroughly convinced if it were in another car without those safety features I might be writing a much sadder post right now... Thank God it was different.

He was driving in front of them and decided to swing into a neighborhood entrance on the right to pull a u-turn and go the other way. Problem was, he didn't stop when he pulled back out. BOOM.

Nice we give 16 year old males the keys to the car (Yes, I speak for when I was 16 as well)

I am glad that cars safety specs did thier job. Agree on the car choice which is why I have an Audi.

I glad to hear that your investment in a new car with airbags kept your family safe.

Nothing can replace your families health and wellbeing. Hope they recover soon from

the experience and that your little girl is fine.

I'm really glad to hear that everyone is doing well. That's some scary stuff.

Perhaps you should contact Nissan with your story? I'm sure that's the kind of thing they'd love to hear.

I'm so happy that your family came through that in one piece! What a frightening moment that must have been for your wife and daughter!

We drive a Q45, and I'll tell you, those larger Nissan sedans are very well-made cars. Like tanks.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I really appreciate it!

Now the whole fun mess with insurance begins. I'm secretly hoping its totalled A) because my wife wants another SUV now and B) Nomatter how much "magic" they can do at a body shop, I just can't see how the integrity and safety of the car will ever be the same when its repaired.

Any tips or experiences on dealing with insurance companies?

You guys are great

Any tips or experiences on dealing with insurance companies?

Well for starters thank God everyone is okay. Its such a relief when you can talk about it, show us pictures like these and know everyone is fine.

As for dealing with the insurance companies...that might differentiate between the insurance company you have and the state where you reside...so, they may be supercool, come out, total it and you are done.

But, to be on the safe side, I would have a mechanic (or two) come out and take a look at it and write you up a sheet. If they both say its totaled (which a handshake and a nod ought to handle...because we I agree with you...you are better off with new than fixing up that damage) then it would be hard for the insurance company to dispute.

Because as a general rule, Insurance Companies are run by the anti-christ.
