Bob dylan's harmonica skill doesnt hold a candle against John Popper from the Blues Traveller.

Was that even in question? John Popper is one of the best musicians in the world.

What brought this on?
Popper may be better at the harmonica, but Blues Traveller blows. They don't hold a candle to Dylan for songwriting.

Just because he wrote something radical (political lyrics) back in the days doesnt make him a great songsinger artist. He should just make poetry with his "Lyrics" and not try to sing it. Just because he used music as a vehicle for his activism doesnt make him a good musician.
He might be an icon for society, but he is certaintly not an icon for me. I dont like his music AT ALL. However, I like his son Jakob Dylon work with The Wallflowers.
I almost choked last night and got into an intense conversation, when someone told me Bob Dylan is the greatest harmonica player ever. Not surprisingly she has never heard of the blues traveller. Then I promise I will let her listen to John Popper.
Bob Dylan is a respectful activist and an excellent poet. Personally, I think his music is very bad.

Blues Traveller is corn syrup. Nothing artistic in their song writing at all. Pop. Fizz. That's it.
If you don't like Dylan's style of music, hey, whatever. But there comes a point when you can appreciate the artistic quality of something without having it fit within your personal tastes (Led Zeppelin does that for me). Guess you're just not there yet.

Not to mention, bob dylan sounds like a DUCK.
And who could deny his brilliance with the piece below ....
I knew a man Bojangles and he'd dance for you in worn out shoes
Silver hair, ragged shirt and baggy pants, that old soft shoe
He'd jump so high, he'd jump so high, will he likely touch down ?
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, dance.

Well, it is true that the harmonica is the most widely-appreciated instrument worldwide. Heck, look what it did for Culture Club.

Apparently, the harmonica wasn't the only thing Boy George was... uh, well, you know.

I don't even know how to respond to this.....what, do you think Bob Dylan has achieved the status of living legend because it was an accident? That he snowed us all? They he bribed somebody or tricked us? The guy is an artist of genius proportions. His lyrics may read like an excellent poem but they are poetic lyrics set to music. And great music at that.
And, he wasn't just an activist. Just an activist implies he was like everybody else and going with the flow. He was a leader, who led by example through his talent of words and music. The respect he gets is not by accident. He earned it.
And he didn't set out to 'fight the cause'. He set out to be a brilliant songwriter which he is...and wound up writing politically charged music. But you seemed ticked by the fact that he used his music as vehicle to demonstrate his politics. Huh? He is an artist. Thats what artists do. Are you a filmmaker? Are you now or planning to at some point in the future going to use your vehicle of film to express your points of view?
And you are trying to compare him to John Popper? That guy is good on a harmonica, a virtuoso even but genius songwriter? Jury is still way out on that one...

The question on the table the other night was "whos a very very good harmonica player?, my vote goes to john popper, and this ignorant chick decided to vote for Bob "duck voice" Dylan. The she continues to ramble on how Dylan is an Musical Icon bla bla bla.
and another brilliant songwriting skill demonstrated in this masterpiece here..
Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good,
They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home.
Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,

Hey, look, if you don't understand the lyrics, especially the context they're in, that's fine, but like I said -- not being your personal taste doesn't rob something of its artistic quality.
And if you've ever seen Bill Robinson, you might understand why so many -- including Dylan -- chose to record "Mr. Bojangles" (which was not written by Dylan).
BTW, Dylan's "activist" period was early on. After that, he recorded his best stuff, which wasn't overtly political. But you don't know that, because you apparently don't know anything about Dylan.
In any case, this is bordering on trolling.
