Dear all,

I am toying with the idea of making a 35mm adapter, I have emailed an order for the new SGPro but I have not heard back from them yet so I may just try and make one and save myself a few hundred quid.

My question is I have a Canon 50mm F1.4 FD lens and I have noticed that if I hold a card up against the lens in good light I see a clear flipped image about 40mm from the lens mount. What should be the capture frame size of my GG is it 36 x 24 or smaller.

In other words if I go for a static design do I need to frame off a 35 x 24mm area 40mm from the mount for my camcorder lens to focus on using some sort of GG at this point.

I will be using this in 16:9 & HDV on a V1E Sony 62mm mounting thread.

Thanks

Steve D

A full aperture Academy frame would be 22mm x 16mm (or 25mm x 18.6mm for Super 35), however, from a desire to decrease the resolution loss that any adapter is going to exhibit, I would go for the largest size that your lens will fully cover (with the least edge fall off).

The distance from the lens mount to your projection screen should match as closely possible the original application (Canon SLR body using this lens to the film plane). This will help to optimize the back focus performance of the combination.

Steve,
I have replied to your email. Canon FD registration is 42mm from lens mount to the image plane (GG). I would suggest a frame of 36x24mm if you choose to build your own adapter.

Thanks Wayne, Will still order one of your adapters but might play around with one myself whilst I am waiting for it to turn up. Thanks again.

Thanks khmuse for your post as well
