I work for a publishing company that produces a large number of short videos to accompany a number of products. Currently, we have only an FX1, 2 Macs with FCP, and accessories (lights, mics, steady shot, etc.) I want to add another camera to our equipment, but I am torn between the V1 and the camera I personally use, the DVX. Obviously, the V1 is a better choice because of the native 16:9, HD/SD capabilities, 20x zoom. Obviously, the DVX is a better choice in terms of current price, low light capabilities, and 24pa pulldown in FCP. But we own one crappy Sony HD camera already, and I would feel terrible about buying something just because I like it. I see the advantages of the V1, but because we don't produce anything in HD yet, are the advantages worth the extra money at this point? Any thoughts about V1 vs. DVX? Thanks.

To produce DVDs with filmlook the dvx works fine.
But have you considered the Canon A1?

I have been trying to read about as many cameras in this price range as possible. Because we have the current Sony FX1, my first decision is to either stick with Sony or go with another brand. I love my DVX but I also want to get a camera for the company that won't be outdated in 12 months. Would you recommend the Canons over the DVX? Is the Canon A1/H1 superior to the V1?

The DVX is perfect for one task - Produce DVDs with filmlook for an acceptebel price.
If you need HD for future work - then A1 is the most priceworthy cam.
If you like dvx look, dont need HD right away the HVX200 is an option. Buy it today shoot miniDV and just buy some P2 cards the day you need HD.
I wouldnt say the A1 is superior - thats more a subjective term, but its really gives you alot for the money.

For HD go TRUE 1080i with 100Mb stream with the HVX200 you won't regret it. We compared the HDV formats to the HVX200's 100Mb picture and editing and WOW what a comparison. HVX all the way :)

That would have made more sense if you were talking about 1080p, all these cameras can do 1080i. And the guy is talking about regular SD DVDs and hvx is overkill. Like movieswede said dvx or xha1 are his best bets, p2 and all that stuff would be a waste of money here.
