Sony recognise that 25P is unacceptably poor and are offering full refunds. It is obviously a fundamental design problem that cannot be resolved in firmware as they had previously said it would.

The V1E will no longer be sold as a progressive camera in 1080i50 regions but as a 50i only HDV camera.

(The V1Us do not have a problem.) NOT VALID ANYMORE! Unfortunately recent tests showed the same for V1U-s as discussed and presented in the same forums.
I have opened a thread here about the newly recognised issue.

In Sony broadcast website in UK about V1E anything about
25p progressive has been deleted (flash movie still remained). NOT VALID ANYMORE! Sony has replaced the 25p claims only 2 days after their removal! Seems they ignore the problem!

Wow, what a disaster for them. Yet another stumble from the once-pre-eminent brand in the world.

But it makes no sense -- how can 24p/30p on the US version be fine, but 25p is irreparably broken? They're both 1440x1080, both 4:2:0, the difference is 4% speed only. Bizarre.

Hi Barry,

yeah, I am one of the "victims" actually. If HVX was not accompanied with those bloody expensive P2 cards, I would use it now.... I have even ordered your DVD and book on HVX
But then i choose to buy V1E...

Anyways, now I am a little confused what to do. Replace and get other brand...wait....or what?
Sony policy with the E and U models is kinda ridiculous. Canon offers their models with an upgrade with 50i and 60i. Why Sony cant do the same? Then at least something would work in the cam.

The 'old world' filmmakers are complaining harder, that's why. :Drogar-Thinking(DBG But i'ts a huge step to do so for Sony. I wonder, to make 25p from 50i scan looks more easy then 24p from 60i scan. Are the ccd only progressive 30P?

I think a lot of V1E owners are going to look at the XH A1. Sony basically just handed a good deal of money over to Canon. And I'm sure some V1E purchasers will just pony up the extra dough and step up to the HVX.

Gee, Barry, I was kind of counting on you having an idea why Sony can't make this work. I'm really curious, as to why. Although I'm not interested in this cam because of the 1/4 chips, I was interested in a 1/3" chip version that may be around the corner. I figured an "E" model would be better so as to not have to deal with the extra frames and all. I was aware on the problem but figured Sony would work this out in time...WOW; is right.

Kudos to Tony Tremble, for alerting people to the problem and keeping on it, despite being shouted down from "experts" and having his threads CLOSED, pending "review" by the "master" at dvinfo. Letting people know the good and bad of this equipment and how to get the best from it, is what these forums should be about. I think he's owed an apology over there and I can bet he'll never get one. SAY NO TO CENSORSHIP!

Absolutely, Tony was spot on, so was Nigel Cooper. First it was 'no issue' until Sony self would bring out the news, until that moment it was not aloud to discuss it further, than it was no 'issue' course it was now a 50i only camcorder... so there was no 'issue' anymore. Thew, how about that curve?

Unfortunately even the forums at dvinfo.net are not too supportive when it comes to discuss the V1E issues.
Any thread dealing with the V1E problems, sooner or later will be closed by the ops. Mostly when Tony posts his comments.

Unbelievable. I just followed that thread over at dvinfo and something was definitely off. Even the moderator came on and said flatout that he wasn't interested in "emotional opinions" because they're not "productive." I hope something like that never happens here. It's people's opinion of their gear and the company that's really worth hearing.

I stopped posting at dvinfo because they unfairly edited one of my posts. Those guys have their minds made up about what they like and don't like, and no one's "opinions" (in this case FACTS) are going to change that. I'm glad this site exits or I'd never be able to get people's honest opinions about gear before I buy it.

Yeah it's werid and kinda crazy, even though they were being nice about it you could tell Mullen and DSE were basically trying to shut that Tony guy down. I can't stand when people act like that but disguise it as being nice so people don't talk back. It feels almost like their paid off, I thought steve was a jvc guy and now it seems like he has insane amounts of sony blood coursing through his viens. I used to look up to those guys and really like their advice but now I don't know what to think.

The high horizontal resolution steve had made a big dip, and needs a gain mode.

OFF TOPIC:

I was banned from dvinfo for asking where my, and someone else's post had gone. They had been deleted and I only asked what happened to the posts and the next day I was unable to post anymore. I sent an email to Chris Hurd and he said that they were only interested in having constructive posting on the forum and not anything of the nature of "where did my post go?" was considered constructive.

I apologized and explained that I did not know how the moderating worked. Their response to that was that I was still welcome to read but that my priveliges were to remain gone.

After that I felt that I did not want to be a part of that forum and I do all of my posting and research here at dvxuser.

I think this post right here would get me banned at dvinfo :)

I apologize for this post being off topic and please do not ban me here, I love this forum too much :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

EDIT- The posts that were deleted contained nothing offensive but had quotes of something DSE said that seemed to be misinformation or not properly explained information. I think the posts were deleted to get rid of statements that did not sound like the brightest statements. If I had done something offensive myself, I would have understood being banned. However, in this case I was banned for asking only where my post had gone.

The administrators can be nazis at DVinfo. I thought I was the only one that got my posts edited. Seems like 1-10 post of mine get deleted or refined. It is frustrating, but Chris Hurd is all about quality control as he calls it.

This forum however is a lot more liberal . I love it.
