i smeared vasiline on my uv filter today and got a realy nice effect.the heavier the vasiline the the more pronounced the effect the less amount the more subtle the effect but realy nice with softer more diffused highlights.has anyone else tried this over a promist and if so what are the bennifits of using a promist over the vasiline

A few years ago we created soft and other effects for 35mm cameras using vaseline on a UV filter and then used nail polish to create the final version. Seems like DoF would be an issue with small sensors.

That's just for diffusion right?

this is only to get the tiffen soft fx effect without using the lens.

That's what oldschool mens mag photographers used to do.

FX filtering would tend to be a heck of a lot less messy I would think.
How do you keep from getting goo all over your equipment? Yikes!
