Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about checking out Red Giant's eLin software, now simple question is how much RAM will this thing chew and of course is the demo software as complete as the Red Giant site states it is (as a full operating plug-in without a watermark like so many of these demos have) or should I just shelve the cash to purchase it? From what I've seen this thing makes amazing results but images can always be touched up and I'd like to hear some honest feedback on it.
Anyone use it? Opinions?
Thanks

What version of AE are you using?
I have eLin and use it from time to time when I'm comping in AE, but I'm on 6.5. In 7 they have added support for float, so eLin is not really necessary in that respect.
So, if you have 6.5, get it, you can download it and use it for educational purposes without any kind of watermark, and if you want to buy it, then buy it.
edit: and check out ProLost's (Stu Maschwitz's) blog, he's a member on here and if you read through his older posts you'll find tons of good info on light, gamma, etc in respect to comping in float in AE. Plus, I'm pretty sure he was involved with the actual creation of eLin with Brendan Bolles, but I could be wrong.
Stu, care to chime in?

I have 7.0, I'm just curious about this plug-in. I'll check out ProLost's blog on it. Thanks!

With 7 you won't need it...the 32bpc mode is built in. eLin is a work around to make AE cheat into 32bpc instead of 16bpc, which was only an issue with pre-7 releases. The blog has got good info in general and he has a lot of nice free tools for AE7.

Yeah eLin is obsolete (built into the program basically). They even point out in the eLin documentation that if AE ever implements higher bit-depths, there will be no need for it anymore.
For a long and informative discussion of using linear-high-bit-depth-color-space, besides the eLin documentation, you could read Bill Spitzak's page:

Hey guys, sorry I didn't see this thread until now. But oneinfiniteloop said it better than I could have—eLin is dead thanks to AE 7's 32bpc mode.

Nice to see there was some interest though! And just for the record PeeDee, the demo was fully functional and free for non-com use.
