Sorry if theres already a question like this on here,

How do you transfer your footage from the firestore unit to a computer or laptop with an external hooked up to it.

What I want to do idealy, is shoot straight to the firestore, i'll be on location while i'm filming so I'd like to take the information from the firestore and put it on an external hard drive hooked up to a laptop so I can edit it later on a Mac pro desktop.

This might be a really dumb question but I havent bought the camera or the firestore yet and am trying to plan out how I will be doing things.

Thanks

TBSHVX,
it's relatively simple. Hook the FS100 up to your laptop via firewire. I would suggest going with a sata external drive (perhaps a G-SATA) because all the firewire ports are on the same bus...if you try to transfer over firewire to a firewire drive you run the chance of a bog down in information transfer. So, back to the actual transfer. Double click on your firestore icon... move the last.txt file to your harddrive.... then move the contents file to your harddrive. How long it takes depends on how much video you shot. You can use a software like P2 log to verify that you transfered all your video files.

The FS is just a hard drive, hook it up with another. Two FW hard drives transfering data to and from each other daisy chained won't be a problem. You probably won't notice any speed problems.

It's when you try to edit, then you have problems. But for simple file transfer, hook them both up daisy chain style to your laptop computer and transfer. You'll have good data transfer speed, too.

FYI, you can't transfer from the FS directly to another drive without a computer. Both are just acting like dum hard drives that will wait for a computer to tell them what to do. Like a couple of old married guys...

BenB,
Thanks for pointing that out. I've just heard stories about a bog down in data transfer when using two firewire drives. That's why I've gone the SATA route. But, it's good to know it's no big deal.

what did you end up buying or will buy?
