Yep, fourth times the charm this time. Went out today with my co-director Daniel and we shot a little drama short. Hope you enjoy.

I know you've been busy as heck working on other productions but I had a feeling you'd pull something together for this fest. That screen grab is very 'Last of the Mohicans' for me...like the last shot of that film. Cool locale; I need some expansive landscapes like that.

Good to see you in this one Brandon.
This screen cap kind of reminds me of Donnie Darko up on Carpathian ridge.

Just wanted to give everyone a production update. Shot everything yesterday evening... Pretty much everything is edited. Need to shoot some flashback footage this week, easy stuff. and plug it in.

Congrats on getting your project ready for the fest so quickly! I like the caps, nice moody tone. What is the TRT? Is this one all available light exteriors?
I have been so involved in TTN that I am already two weeks behind on shooting Violet. Got ill and lost a location so I gotta get cranking pretty quick if I hope to get it finished in time.

Thanks man! Yeah, all available light... we actually had a hard time toward the end, as the light was going away on top of the mountain, but the look of the film is supposed to be pretty gritty, so it works pretty well.
The running time is about 2 min. Another short short, lol. We honestly just made it up while driving around yesterday evening, drove up to the mountain and shot it... I have a couple more "flashback" shots to do... one being Saturday (already scheduled) and then some more this week.

Yeah, can't wait to see Violet man!

A gritty, slightly underexposed look can work really well for a lot of subjects. If the tone of the subject is dark, then the look should lean in that direction as well.
I wish I could convince myself to shoot a short short. For some reason, I seem to gravitate toward long shorts!
I hope to knock out the last of the exteriors for Violet by the end of next week. I will be shooting the interiors the middle of the following week, so it is going to be pretty close if I finish it in time for the fest. The Super 8mm footage may not be done in time, but I will still shoot it as the fest isn't the primary reason that we are shooting Violet, but I did want to have something to submit.
Again, congrats on getting something together so quickly!

UPDATE: Though I am MUCH more focused on trying to finish up Smuggler's Ransom, I am going to be shooting the last bit of the footage I need for this short today. I'm hoping it works out. I only have one shot at shooting this.

Brandon,
Is this a short short? What's your run time for this one?
And how many of the dramafest entries have you been involved with?
Looking forward to what you've done!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our thread man. Appreciate the kind words man. I been checking back and forth on your Smugglers Ransom flick. I have been looking forward to that ever since I found this thread... And i'm always looking forward to see what comes out of your shorts for these fests.

You've hardly put anything up on this short. When are we going to see some "grabs". I'm sure you have something you want to share.
Brandon Rice
01-20-2007, 10:55 PM
Actually to be honest... the short's kinda dying... it was a cool idea... but like the shots I was planning on getting today, I didn't, because I got so caught up in my bro's wedding (I was the best man) and really didn't have time or energy to do anything... we'll see if it even gets to the fest, lol. Might even end up doing something different (I know there's only a week left!)

Well I sure didn't see THAT coming. Geez Brandon, way to blindside us all.
:)
But seriously, at least you turned the camera on and shot something for this idea. That's never a bad thing.
EDIT
Oh yeah, congrats to your bro and on being the best man. Please tell me you didn't make that really horrible best man joke that everyone uses?
Brandon Rice
01-21-2007, 12:45 PM
What horrible best man joke is that? hehe
Yeah... life sometimes gets in the way... not to say I won't script, shoot and score something next weekend :) hehe

Brandon Rice

Ya know Kyle... I just got sick yesterday, and today I thought in my head, I could still do something this weekend... then I realized the motive for wanting to do it was wrong... I just want to do it because I feel people expect it... and that's not a good reason...
Last year 2006, I did, 3 shorts, and Smuggler's Ransom... Plus numerous little things here at work...I think that's enough... and I can take a breather and finish writing my feature script :)

Sorry to hear you're out, man... but yeah, you don't want to burn yourself out PLUS you need to focus on making what you're working on top notch and not mediocre just to have something new to work on.
Brandon Rice
01-25-2007, 01:52 PM
Yep, my feelings precisely Tom. :)
I hope everyone can understand that.
