Hey All. I'm curious if anyone knows whether or not an old 16mm matte box could be made to work with an HVX. I just ordered my camera and don't have it in hand yet. Just curious if this is something that is done and if so, which old Matte Boxes might be desirable? Thanks, -jason

I think that is 100% possible. Probably better! I have rails and an adapter for my camera and have been looking for a cheap 16mm 2 stage mattebox. Don't quote me on this but through my experience I have found that most 16mm matteboxes can be and often are mounted on 15mm rails, which is quite common for video camera rail systems. But you WILL need a rail system.

Thread revived! lol So what did you guys figure out with this?
I saw this on ebay. Wonder how this would do on a GH1, think it would even work?

I'd pass on that for use with a camera like the GH1. It looks to be very heavy. I don't see any way to mount it to a rail system. It also looks to have 3 matte blades, left, right, and a full frame matte holder, but I would really wonder if modern filter holders would fit into it. While you could probably man-handle a DIY set up to get it in front of a GH1, I am just not sure it would be the best way to go. A modern carbon fiber, swing away set up, while much more expensive then this matte box, would probably be a much better investment in ease of use and functionality.

Thanks David. I honestly just liked it for the vintage style and thought it would be neat to use with the GH1 but I see what you mean. I am new to all of this but trying to research my way through it. I appreciate the advice. :)
