B&H have some good deals going at MacWorld that are also available on their site. Examples:

- Canon XH-A1 $3599.95
- Canon HV10 $ 899.95

Hey, now maybe the search for that low-price A1 dealer will finally end. $3600 is pretty competitive with what I've seen so far.

Strange, I did a search on the B&H site and they still show the A1 at $3699. But the link shows the price at $3599. So which is correct? Is this a temporary offer?

I paid $3599 for my A1 at ZGC a month ago

That is a great price and its close enough to the lowest quotes out there to be a contender for sure. I have done business with B&H in the past and while I have always gotten my orders for at a great price, there have been instances where it has taken several weeks/phone calls before getting my order. The places that have the lowest price quote are often selling so many units that they sometimes take orders telling you the item is in stock when they are actually sold out and waiting on another shipment to fill there orders.

DrHST mentioned in another thread that he just got his A1 from ROSCOR/DISCOUNT VIDEO WAREHOUSE for $3538 and also reffers to another dealer having it for $3500 even if I'm not mistaken.

Basically, there are several places that are selling the A1 for a really good price. I'm just waiting for my tax refund and I will be ordering my late xmas present for myself. Can't wait!

BTW, Went to Samy's the other day and the best they could do was $3699

how long do you guys expect these prices to stay like this?

i'm really loving the HV10 right now, and that price looks sweet, but funds are almost there, i'll probably be looking to purchase in 2-3 weeks, think that'll still be existent than?

Prices go down, not up. I wouldn't sweat it. A1 started at $3999, it's already drifted to $3600 at B&H and lower at other dealers. HVX started at $5995, some dealers are reporting it at $4995 now. The longer you wait, the lower the price will be. Don't rush into something or overextend yourself; wait until you need it, and when you need it, get it at the best available price. If you don't need it, don't get it -- something newer will always come along, so you preserve your options by waiting until you need it. But if you're in the business and you need it, get it.

Great advice Barry. Always filled with insight.

If I hadn't sold my DVX and all my equip. to start paying all my holiday bills and rent and hospt. stuff, i wouldn't be so eager. I miss shooting video so badly, and i'm no longer technically a "dvx owner", i'm still a DVXUser at heart. I just miss my dvx so much. some times i tear up at night (haha jk). Thanks for the great insight though BG.

Does anyone know how the HV10 Records? SD for photos and miniDV for HD?

Now is this camera true HD or is it HDV? And also are regular Master MiniDV tapes going to record this "HD" in best quality, or are there special HDV MiniDV Master tapes that work?

Well, hold on -- if you don't have a camera at all... that's a whole different subject! Of course you NEED something now! What were you thinking? :)

XHA1 is HDV, which is another recording format for HD. Tape quality doesn't affect the actual recorded image fidelity, it affects your susceptibility to dropouts. Better tape should exhibit fewer dropouts. With HDV the dropouts are particularly nasty; you lose a half-second of footage, so if I were shooting HDV I would insist on using the very best tapes I could get.

After reading as many posts as I could find on " the very best Tape " to use, general consensus seems to lean toward the Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ 'dry' lube tape over the Sony PHDVM-63DM DigitalMaster 'wet' lube tape. Both are excellent tapes but the 'dry' lube seems to creat less problems with the video heads in the long run. Panasonic is less expensive than the Sony.

Yea, those were the tapes I were using when shooting on my DVX, I just wasn't too sure with all this new HDV, and stuff. I'm used to shooting HD either directly to a a p2 card, or directly to an HD Deck onto DVCam or such.

all this consumer HD stuff confuses me more than the pro HD stuff.

thanks for the replies tho, and yes barry, i MUST get a camera, i read these forums everyday and get so jealous at everyone. i've been trying to make moving images on my digi to fill in the gap of creating moving pictures.haha. thanks all.

Is this a sale price or its new permanant price? because I won't be able to get one for a couple of months and I hope the price doesn't go back up even though it was only like 100 bucks.

It's more to me cuz of the exchange rate, in a couple of months I'm gonna drive down to new york, stay with my cousin for a week and buy it then. The less the camera costs, the more I have to use to buy all kinds of other crap in nyc!
