From all the threads I've read in this forum it seems that people are using the standard Easy Setup which captures in HDV (MPEG2) and sets sequences to edit in HDV as well. I believe I read somewhere (can't find it now) that it was best to edit in an intermediate codec because MPEG2 has interframe compression and you can lose important image information when you make cuts.

What is recommended for capturing and what is recommended for editing? Also, what is recommended for sending to other programs like AE?

Thank you very much.

An intermediate codec would be something like Cineform (www.cineform.com).

Your don't actually lose image information when you make cuts in an MPEG compression. An interframe compression simply means that when you make a cut to one frame, every other frame in that group has to be re-rendered to make the footage viewable, putting strain on your system and slowing down your edit.
