When batch capturing, after it captures the first clip i get an error box with the message "destination disk is too slow". I have the Maxtor 1TB external firewire HDD (Raid 1). Then stops capturing. Any ideas?

That message doesn't always mean the storage itself is too slow, sometimes the system can just be too busy, or the datapath is clogged. Essentially it means it can't maintain the necessary throughput for the capture.

If your array is really RAID 1 (mirroring) and not RAID 0, 3 or 5 (striping only, striping with parity) then you won't get any performance benefit and it's acting like a single drive.

Try capturing to a different drive and see if you're more successful.

the same thing happened on an external 250 gig firewire drive. so that would suggest a system problem then?

Can you capture OK to a non-FireWire drive, either USB2 or local storage? Maybe there's some kind of bandwidth-choking on the FireWire bus or interface.

Also disable the 1394 Networking adapter if it's enabled (in Network Connections).

You might also check your project settings. Make sure the project output is set up the same as the footage you are capturing. Recently, I got that message and I noticed the output was set to HD and the capture footage was HDV. After matching the settings the "disc to slow" message went away.

Yes, if the source footage resolution doesn't match the project resolution, then EDIUS will need to scale the clips, which puts extra load on the system.

Also, the larger the project resolution, the more processing EDIUS has to do.

If you're trying to capture 720p dvcpro HD, that is probably the problem. It's broke in EDIUS, for now.

Try 1080, and I bet it will be fine.

If you weren't trying to capture dvcpro HD in 720, then forget I said that :)

OK. I'm new to EDIUS. How do I change the drive? I checked the menus, manual, etc., but couldn't see where to specify the destination drive for capturing. ??

For those who are encountering this message as a result of trying to capture 720P, I have found a workaround -- please see my post HERE (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=914217&postcount=5).

I was getting the same error message trying to capture mini dv from a Sony Deck. I hooked up my DVX 100 and captured the footage fine.
