This could be a nice monitor. It's supposed to be capable of 1080p resolutions. 7.1 inches. 310 pixels per inch.
Don't know when or how much yet, but they say they made it.

Wow, that'd be great to have on set. I hope it's only $50... fingers crossed.

naw, theyre market it as "Sony's new 7 inch monitor. THE WORLDS SMALLEST HIGH DEF TELEVISION." and then end up selling it for 4 or 5 hundred bucks

Interesting.
Obvious questions: Inputs, Signal & power? How much does it weigh? How heavy is it? What's the display lag (if any)? Cool.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this was $1000 and up just because it's new and ultra-compact. Packing 310 pixels per inch is bound to be a more expensive manufacturing process. It's supposed to be officially unveiled at a show tomorrow in Japan.

Dunno. If'n it's a Sanyo, you might see a really low pricepoint. Surprisingly low.

Yeah but its Sony

It's Sanyo, not Sony.

Yeah. A sanyo. I expect that it might be "expensive". But that depends on what you compare it to. If it came in as a sub 1k thing, it could potentially make (at the least) a great monitor for focusing, etc.
It all depends on the quality of the build though. Mikko raised an interesting point as well. I do wonder what kind of input/output options it will have.
I haven't been able to find out anything else about it, though. There were a bunch of press releases dated mid-late October, but nothing since.

These are THE questions to ask. Especially on INPUTS. Limited to Component? Or are there HDMI's? Probably won't be on par with a Marshall for production... but all of us can't afford Marshalls. Could be a decent alternative on set for A1/HVX users.

There is also a 2 inch 720p model.
I think they said it is destined for cell phones.

A 2" 720p screen?.... Why?
Jason Ramsey

For cell phones and such. With all the video downloading going on. I doubt they would sell it as just the screen, but rather to cell phone manufacturers, IPOD like devices, etc.

I've had a few of Sanyo's projectors - they partner with great mfgs and bring unbelivable pricepoint. I say bring it.

Yep. Bring it. I'd love to see that 1080p screen hooked with a portable DVD type housing. Instead of DVD though, give it an SD card slot, a little cpu, etc. You could also use it to show work to potential clients. In a couple of years sd cards will allow close to as much storage as the current crop of HD DVD's, etc. Plus you would have your format of choice to compress to. MP4? fine. Divx? Fine. H.264? fine.
Take that, give it the necessary input/outputs, a bit of customizeable power options. One for "Monitor" mode, one for "DVD-type" mode, etc. I'd pay 1k for that (as soon as I could afford it)

Watch Archos; they'll probably adopt it as soon as anybody does. A solid-state card would be a great idea; my AV500 has a hard disk in it and while it's a wonderful tool, I do worry about it.
720p cell phone screen would be pretty darn cool. I have a Nokia N93 with probably the best LCD out there, but it's only 320x240; a 720p cell phone screen would be 12x as much data in the same space! I doubt you could even see the difference, it'd be so small, but hey, I'd rather have it than not...

googling "Archos"
I don't even know who that is :)

Rack up a hundred thousand air miles in six months, and you'll quickly figure out what the Archos AV500 is... :)
100 gigs of movies & music, on a big bright LCD screen with four hours of battery life and an optional 12-hour battery. It even has USB host mode capability, so I thought it'd make for a useful HVX field offload device (not USB-On-The-Go, it has actual directories and file structures etc). Alas, it's only USB 1 for the host mode, so it's not useful for that. Newer later models added USB2.

Archos makes some kick-ass portable video players that I'd have to say are probably BETTER than iPods? But have yet to recieve iPod-wide recognition.
When they start up with the USB2 and possibly learn how valuable firewire connects are for just about anything, that could change. As well as better advertising for outstanding products.

Yeah. I was just checking it out. Something like that with the ole 1080p screen, a little wifi even. Nice. A good multi-purpose unit and a potentially "affordable" monitor. For focusing, anyways at least.

Remember, at the end of the day, even with all its scan-conversion trickery, the Marshall is just a 480 monitor. Finding a workaround to getting analogue component into the Sanyo should be a minor hurdle if it doesn't already have a model which would support it.

I really don't think this 7" monitor will be that expensive...I mean, they're putting 9-13" LCDs in 1080p LCD projection televisions. Why not rip one of those out, put it in a perty case and sell it for nearly the cost of the projection!?
