Doritos Contest Top 5!

Hey guys,

My friends and I shot a 30 second spot for the Crash the Superbowl contest sponsored by Doritos and learned that we were selected into the Top 5 submissions!

We shot is using the JVC HD100 with the Letus HD100 (great adapter, thanks Quyen!).

The next phase is up to a vote by the public and will determine which of the 5 will be aired during Super Bowl XLI. Any and all support would be greatly greatly appreciated. We only had 4 days to conceptualize and produce the spot as we found the contest late. It was quite a challenge!

Not sure which one is yours, but i thought they were all pretty crummy save for the mouse one, which had me until the violence in the last second or two. The worst is easily the rock climbing. Best editing goes to the commercial that just doesnt fit at all, the spicy, bold, cheesy one. very art schoolish and doesnt get the feeling of doritos, anyways, whatever.

Yours was really really good, but the idea and execution for "Mouse Trap" was really good. It caught me off guard and made me laugh. Mouse Trap gets my vote

yes, yes i did. didnt garner much support from dvxuser though. i didnt have anything to do with it creativly, it was a 86th Street Studio gig though for close friends.

The group we were with saw this commercial and everyone cracked up. One of the best! I would have never guessed someone on here did it!

i've always thought "30 sec commercial" would be a great dvxuser contest theme (forgive me if it's been done. My activity on the board is enthusiastic but intermittent). maybe with make believe products --a chip/beer/car/internet/whatever company -- to avoid copyright issues.

only problem is that there is already no way to top this dude's achievement ... but anyway, this could be a really fun (and marketable) contest theme.

and back to the subject... again congrats on a one-in-a-million success story.

Hey everybody!

I'm so overwhelmed by everyone's fantastic response to this... I thought i had email alerts turned on and hadn't gotten anything - so after coming back just for fun and seeing this with all the replies, I was blown away!

Thank you all so much for your kind words - i feel honored to be a part of such a tremendous community of video nerds like myself.

This truly was an amazing accomplishment for me and my team, and things definitely have changed. The BIGGEST change has been just having the recognition and moreso, the credibility.

We're a small video production company that we just started a little over 3 months ago. For a while there we could barely eat. It's been said that so many people like ourselves have the creative talent but lack the business skills to put it to use... we're no exception - yet. Calling people just got a million times easier because now i can call and say, yeah i'm the one who created that Doritos Super Bowl commercial.

It's been absolutely amazing...

I will definitely be posting a thread in the very near future about the making/aftermath of...
