In the DVX/HVX clips sections, I see a lot of people give a link to their work and it's just a blank web page where their quicktime movie loads. This would be the desired result but since I am new to this whole 'upload to web' process, I have a couple of questions.

1) What's the easiest way to create a quicktime movie available for the web? I have Premiere 1.5 but I seem to remember, the few times I've tried it, running into trouble on the quicktime export. If I have to buy a new program, the cheaper the better.

2) What's the best place to buy website space? I'd prefer to own my own website and it not be something like 'putfile' where there are a million ads on the page. I know that there are probably a TON of answers to this and to some it might seem ridiculously obvious, but I have no experience in these matters so a few suggestions would be nice. It's okay if it costs something but again, it'd be better if it was cheap. :)

dotmac. it's pretty easy to upload your files and make download sites, viewing sites, or your own blank page (if you have something like dreamweaver)

you can even do it all online with a windows computer

www.apple.com/dotmac (http://www.apple.com/dotmac/)

$99 a year.

I use Go Daddy for hosting. Great value over there... lots of storage, tons of bandwidth. Affordable. Perfect for video I reckon.

youtube/myspace... horribel resolution, but its free and easy, and you get the word out.

yeah, youtube/myspace is the problem. I think they're a great general place to show your work. But if you want to steer a client to a work of yours, you can't have it be on myspace or youtube. You need the highest/best possible resolution.

Anybody know how to actually compress these files to quicktime?

Well, I would think the quickest, easiest way would be to use Quicktime Pro, at $29.99:

I know, makes sense right? But I hear about people using programs like Sorenson Squeeze or other programs to encode in Quicktime. Don't want to spend 30 bucks only to find out there was an easier/better way to do it.

One of the cheapest ways (though admittedly, not the easiest) is to use VLC (VideoLAN Client) which is a free download available here. (http://www.videolan.org)
Once you've got the client, follow the instructions to encode to iPod that are located here. (http://wiki.videolan.org/IPod), Just change the resolution to something more appropriate for presentation to your clients.

Premiere Pro 1.5 can export directly to QT using the "Adobe Media Encoder" in the export options. Take a bit fo time to experiment to find the best export settings.

Then for actual hosting; to gest started, note that you have 10MB free webspace with your DVXuser meebrship for storing files. You can use that as a start with hosting smaller QT files.

After that , the best bet is to look into paying for some proper web hosting. I use 1and1 (www.1and1.com (http://www.1and1.com)) Vest fast & realiabel, and also one of the cheapest. :) Run a search it the cafe as web hosting options have been discussed a few times allready.

You could use a tool like Super ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=SUPER_1)

to encode to a SWF file, and then embed it into an HTML page. You don't get the fancy "stop, pause, etc" controls, but the quality is pretty decent-- certainly better than YouTube. Plus, you can integrate it into your own site to show it to a client.

Super is actually a GUI for several other programs, so you can likely customize your options more if you are comfortable with the command line.

I've played around with this a bit earlier in the week, and will be posting a video to my site later this weekend. I'll post a link when I'm done so you can see the quality.

For hosting, you might try contacting dvxuser member miniman13 (?) He has set up a hosting site that he is letting folks host stuff for free.

I have also hosted some stuff for folks here and am willing to do so as long as I have the bandwidth to spare.
