Just curious to what everyones workflow is, im dumping my footage on a 720x480 timeline sinces its gonna be converted to SD anyway. What are the benefits of editing in a 1080 timeline? or is it the same? Should I be editing in 23.976?
The motion artifacts are really noticable. ah.
thanks-ramon

I don't know about you, but if I put 1080 footage into a 480 timeline, it has to render like a mother.
There are workflows to create an "offline edit" using SD timelines and downconverting your footage to SD. The idea is that your computer can run faster while editing the smaller footage, then you can apply those edits to your HD footage. It sounds like you only want to use the offline edit as the final product. Most prosumer HD cameras can downconvert the footage internally.
As for the framerate, I would definitely suggest editing in the same framerate that your footage is. (That could be the worst sentence structure I've used today.)

I would beware of the possibility of the footage having to go though 2 colourspace conversions if you put the m2t files in an NTSC project and finally output to DVD. I am not sure if it really happens (I am in PAL-land), but the m2t files are 4:2:0, NTSC DV is 4:1:1 and SD DVD files are 4:2:0. You could end up with poor quality results compared with rendering from 1080 timeline to DVD format.

Ive been told to do it at 1440x1080 timeline and output as widescreen mpeg-2 for dvd output vs doing it using the standard 720x480 timeline.

How do you do that? Can it be done in Vegas? Sounds awesome.

Go to the VASST site and download the demo of Gearshift which works in Vegas. It makes the SD DV proxies and allows you to quickly swap between the DV and HDV files at any time.
Please be aware that it only converts video files and not generated media. If this is important you might need to find a workaround.
