So apparently my FS-4Pro HD is overall the wrong product for the Canon A1.

I've been on the phone with F.E. (Focus Enhancement), the place I bought it from and on a msg board with the gentleman (Matt McEwen) that trained the techs at F.E. on the FS-C and there's so much confusion going on between everyone.

Matt says: "FS-4Pro HD does not have QuickTime HDV support. 1080i/24F and 30F support is only on FS-C."

F.E. tech Joe says: "The FS-4Pro HD and the FS-C are 100% the same."

Video Guys sales guy Phil says: "The FS-4Pro HD and the FS-C are 100% the same. We'll take the FS-4Pro HD back but we don't carry the FS-C"

LOL! This is so lame.

From what I've read previously the FS-C and FS-4 Pro HD are the same. The FS-C came with some additional hardware to mount the unit to the XL-H1.

The Quicktime HDV feature on any of Firestore's products doesn't support any of Canon's F modes -- only 1080i.

Coffee:

You posted some M2T clips of your kids a while back. I believe you mentioned they were off the Firestore? Were these 24f or 60i? I am curious if the A1 works with the FS-4 to record 24F, 30F and 60i M2T files as I use PP 2.0 not FCP.

Thanks,

SCannon

they were 1080i/24F files, the FS will record that file type but not
QT 1080i/24f.

on the fe website on the fs-c page it says, "With the FS-C v2.0 firmware update, you can record the 1080i-50/60 output from your Canon HDV camcorder in the native QT HDV file format." and then on the fs-4pro hd page it says, "With the FS-4Pro HD v2.0 firmware update, you can record 1080i-50/60 and 720p/30 clips in the native QT HDV file format." so i am still wondering why they have a canon specific version when they don't even have 24f or 30f support. i'm hoping that they are going to have the upgrade here soon and hopefully we can push them harder towards it. and i have a the fs4prohd and i haven't seen an option to record 720p 30 anywhere on it yet but i'm guessing that could be camera related as well and the only hdv cam that does 720 is the hd100 correct?

The update is expected to be out sometime soon but will only be available for the FS-C. The update will allow the unit to record 1080i in 24f and 30f in QT format.

hmm.. ok. that kinda sucks. i work for a fairly large telecasting company and we have 2 firestores, atleast at every station. and we use canon h1's. so thats gonna suck pretty bad if we can't utilize these drives to their fullest. but i'm gonna drop an email to someone at focus and see if they will have this update available for the fs4pro units as well.

Found this just now:

The new 2.0 firmware for FS-C added QuickTime HDV record capabilities for 1080i50/60 when used with the XL-H1. HDV QT clips recorded with FS-C 2.0 allowed files to drop into the FCP timeline without conversion. The 2.1 upgrade (which is in beta now), will add the ability to record 1080i/24F/25F/30F as QuickTime HDV files which can be used instantly in FCP.

All models still have M2T capability for other NLEs.
