View Full Version : encasing a Kino DIY fixture/lamp holder.
Looking to encase my kino project. Are there any shoplights that are easy to diasimble or convert to 2g11?
Looking at converting this one.

Is there a better way than this?

That's a four foot fixture so you would have to mount your bulbs end to end rather than side by side and barn doors will be harder to fabricate. Its very hard to find a suitable metal case that is 22" long and a multiple of 6" to allow you to put the bulbs in multiples of two (each on a 3" center is typical). In fact, when I was researching my video on this subject I never really did find something suitable. So I ended up drawing up plans and having a metal fabricator make me something. I have an article I am writing for my website though showing a portable fixture being made from an old surplus portable voting booth that folded up in to a nice aluminum case--just the right size for about 4 bulbs/reflectors, 2 ballasts, etc. I found the case at an electronic surplus shop for $7.00 and knew instantly it was a winner just by looking at it. It folds up nice and neatly, is light, etc. I just gutted the insides and had an empty case to use for the fixture. I'll have the article on my website soon along with some other answers for questions like this one you pose...
I was going to cut that fixture down the middle and then rivet it together. I'm still looking. And making plans seems to be the next step instead of trying to find something that is just going to work. A true DIY project. :)

Oh, not a bad idea. If you can make a decent looking endplate and not have the whole thing too ragged looking (or ragged enough to cut someone while they are setting it up too!). Some of the paint is likely to get chipped off but perhaps you were going to paint the whole thing flat black anyway after all the work...
