Hi,

I’m a brand new owner of an HVX200 and I have a question.
When using the firewire port, should both the computer and the camera be off before I connect the firewire cable? Or just the camera?

thanks

I have always made certain the camera was off when connecting/disconnecting firewire and it is probably safest to make certain that computer is off as well. I always have a FW400 and FW800 connected to my Mac G5. I have occasionally plugged firewire cable into Powerbook, MacBook Pro and Dell notebook when computer was on. But I don't want to take any chances with the fragile FW400 4-pin connector on HVX.

Thanks,

I'll play it safe and power down both the computer and camera before doing anything with the firewire cable.

I'm pretty careful about this as well, and always have the cam off before connecting or disconnecting the FW cable

It's not necessary to power down the computer. Connect the cable to the PC first, this ensures any static elec. is discharged, then connect the camera, then turn it on. BTW, this is the recommended procedure in the manual.

I second Mr. Campbell.

And when disconnecting, first dismount the cam by dragging the icon to the trash, or right clicking and electing "eject."

Wait until the icon disappears.

Then without connecting, turn of the cam.

Wait a second or two until is actually turns off.

The unplug the 4-pin FW plug from the cam.
