View Full Version : Viewing .mxf files??

I've recently recorded some material on my HVX200 using a rented P2 card and off loaded the material through firewire into this handy dandy little file folder setting in "my documents" copying virtually everything that was on the P2 drive and would like to look at it but can't.

I've downloaded the P2 viewer that was recommended but it only works so long as the card in the PCMCIA slot but once the files are copied over on to the HD the viewer apparently can't find them.

Any suggestions how to actually watch the video . . or . . copy the .mxf files into somekind of readable file for either QT (yuck) or Windows Media Player (preferrably)? Or, at the very least some other viewer or player?

Thanks in advance for any kind help in this matter.

If I recall correctly there is a way to create a "virtual P2" using p2 viewer that essentially tricks your computer into thinking it is reading the mxf files off a real card. ill google for a bit and try to find something.

Hi,

After posting the item, I found that which you spoke of and did in fact create a virtual P2 card and got to view it thanks so much for the help. Only thing is, my 1.2GHz Laptop isn't liking it and the video is jumpy although the audio plays fine. It's no doubt that the video is because the viewer and the P2 data (.mxf files) are on the same drive. :) Little idiocyncries huh?

BTW, how do you like the HVX200 and the P2 card thing? Personally I like it well but was thinking that for a little more than the same money as a current P2 I can add a couple hundred and get an FS100 from Firestore. Do you know anyone who has this config? And are there any drawbacks?

As I say thought, I like the cards and the laptop transfer through the PCMCIA slot and will shortly be testing the HD record to P2 then downconvert output to a portable HD using the HVX200 to see how that quality looks compared to straight DV tape but first I have to wait for my P2 card to arrive :(

For low-performance PCs you have the opportunity to customize the P2Viewer.
