Hi hope someone can help. I bought a HVX200 and it came without any firmware added to it. Is there a way to download this or to copy it from another camera? I dont understand why someone would even have a camera without its software let alone be selling it, but it was bought from a cam house who neglected to put on their website that the camera would be useless until i get the firmware.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know, dude. The Panasonic website doesn't list any firmware for the camera itself, so I'd call the tech support people (although they haven't been very helpful to me in the past.)

First I'd probably call the people who sold you the camera and do some serious ear-filling. If you paid full price for the camera, the least they could do is give you one that works out of the box.

edit:
Here's the phone number: 800.524.1448 It says to choose option 2 for AG camcorders.

Saw your thread in another forum, I believe.

Did you purchase from USA Photo Nation, and now they want $1800.00 to get the firmware?

Run, don't walk away from this.

Do not respond to them, and cancel the purchase immediately.

There is a reason they are selling the HVX200 for $2100 is because you will never get it for that price.

Again, always buy Panasonic authorized.

This whole thing doesn't make any sense -- it's impossible to get a camera without any firmware. Can you be more specific about the symptoms you are experiencing? If you go into MCR mode, bring up the menu, select Properties, and then Firmware, you can see the version of the firmware that your camera is currently using.

Edit: It just occurred to me that maybe you are confusing firmware and P2 memory cards. If that's the case, then the vendor you bought the camera did nothing wrong, the camera doesn't come with P2 cards, they have to be purchased separately. Panasonic is currently running a promotion in the US where you get a free P2 card when you buy a camera from an authorized dealer, but the P2 card gets shipped to you after you register the camera with Panasonic, it doesn't come in the camera box.

THoff. Given the post by identical person in another forum and the seller being USA Photo Nation, I think this is basically a bait and switch or grey market issue.

The OP indicated that he actually received the camera, but that it did not come with firmware:I bought a HVX200 and it came without any firmware added to it.

David and I both saw this post at dvinfo.net. Seems the poor guy bought from a Brooklyn scammer who told him the camera came "without firmware and that he should pay them extra for the firmware because Panasonic would charge $1800 for the firmware." It's another one of those cases of someone who didn't do his homework scammed by the Brooklyn thieves.

He also said he was going to return the package once it came without opening it.

He also said he was going to return the package once it came without opening it.If he actually received the camera already (his posts are self-contradicting on this issue) or ever does receive it at the price quoted on the website, then I would definitely keep the camera. There is no way that those crooks could remove the firmware that is surely in the camera, certainly not without opening the original box.

If he does not pay the "firmware price" the ganefs are asking, he never will receive a camera.

Sure glad we're all posting here without any updates or clarification from the OP.

Well it is possible that they actually have an opened unit that they purposely killed the firmware on -- they could run the firmware upgrade process, and kill the unit's power in the middle of it. That would leave the unit with no firmware...

They are not that smart to open the box and meddle with the firmware.

I think they are referring to all the accessories.
