SONY DID NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRM THIS BUT:
from more than one internet contact
we heared that V1E shipping is suspended
for at least a month. Sony Germany and
Holland are putting HVR-V1E (Europe model)
deliveries on hold due to alert on 25P picture problems.
After our tests we also noticed slight paint effects.
It seems a software fix can solve the problem.
We are waiting for official Sony Report on this!

[After doing some research, here is some fresh update on the 25p@HV1E]

UPDATE SATURDAY 23rd DECEMBER 2006!
I have just taken delivery of a new V1 that supposedly doesn't suffer from soft images in progressive mode anymore. I have been informed by Sony UK that the issues with early V1 cameras was down to the built in software, which caused the camera to lose resolution when switched into progressive mode. This loss of resolution made the image appear somewhat soft and slightly out of focus. Sony have assured me that a software modification will fix this issue. This has to be done by Sony and cannot be done by end users. However, upon testing this new V1 with the latest software fix, although the soft issues have been cleaned up, I am now noticing a new set of issues with this camera. In progressive mode, the V1 now suffers from dancing-edge-enhancement-artifacts, otherwise known as 'Marching Ants'. In areas of the subject that have defined edges there is a very noticeable amount of marching-ants and artifacts that flicker and move. This was very noticeable, to the point of rendering the shot totally useless, when I filmed a bunch of book spines on a book shelf. The book edges suffered from marching-ants all up and down their spines and on my Sony 46" 1920x1080 HD TV the shot was most questionable when compared to the same shot done in interlace mode. It is as if a Sony engineer has tweaked the software and simply turned up the edge-enharnecment to a very high level, resulting in some very questionable and unwanted effects. Marching ants and edge definition artifacts dancing all over the place is something I don't want to see in a picture; not even at this cheap price. So although the soft effect due to resolution loss has been cleared up, the V1 now has an even bigger problem on its hands.

So for now, the V1 is still a no no for anybody wanting a native progressive scan camcorder.

[It seems the Sony engineers are having some trouble to handle with it... :embarasse]

EDIT :( [on the interlaced mode] The footage is quite acceptable!

There is a flaw with the HVR-V1u in PAL states (50hz) Sony is calling back all units, owners become a box to store the camera in, it takes Sony 40 minutes to repair a unit. So it is a official malfunction on the Sony V1 cam.

The first returns AFTER repair showed that another problem came up: dancing ants. :violin: Crawling fast moving edge problems. The first reports come in now, not all but the most are not satisfied. I hope Sony can overcome this problem, the EU market is very Sony minded.
