Am rephrasing this technical question from yesterday, in the light of new info.
I have to start editing a feature documentary in FCP 5.1.2, but might need to transfer the project over to an Avid later. Has anyone done this? Is it even possible to refer back to the .MXF's? Someone has told me once you start editing in FCP w/ Quicktimes, there is no way to export a project to Avid, but I feel there's got to be a way.
Would exporting to FCP with some kind of XML data do the trick?
f I rename the tape names in P2 Log to match the P2 Volumes, could I export an EDL later from FCP that the Avid could use to batch digitize off the .MXF's? Is there any other way to export a project from FCP to Avid?
Also, I have been told that under no circumstances should you change the clip name, because the 6-digit clip name is the most important thing which will point back to your original .MXF's in case of a problem, and that the 20-digit user clip name is not important and you can change that or delete that data if you wish. Is that true?
