EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that there are already two films named "Broadcast" in the contest.

So I have changed the name of my film to ...

Reserving post for BTS, etc.

EDIT: Actually just for the sake of abundant clarity, I'm just joking and not really entering. :)
There were already two films named BROADCAST entered in the fest, hence this thread being a joke.
One has since changed its name to STATIC.

Since I'm having a small giggle at there expense I'll pimp them here. Check out there threads.

I'm sure they'll both be cool shorts and look forward to checking them out.

The answer to the inevitable question of whether you can sleep on my couch when Megan kicks you out, is "No."

So we now have three entries titled "Broadcast". :) or are just making a broadcast about your entry?

WELCOME ABOARD!!!

WELCOME ABOARD!!! It's the title of my entry ... some people might assume I was only starting this thread as a small gag based on that fact ... some people.

I love it Jack!!!! Need some effects??? Maybe a little help with that "A liver runs through it" scene? I still have a ton of digital guts left over from Rekindled.

Jack Daniel Stanley

Yeah I was counting on you to do all the fish digitally.

We may need some help with digital tears as well. I mean it is a drama.

Read the tagline and NOW I get it. Oh God, that's just messed up and a tad
funny.

Haha, love it. Just from reading the tagline, I got tears in my eyes. Really moving stuff.

By the way, I was in a toss up between renaming mine "Rekindled" or "Bonehand", but decided to go with "static". Wonder if I made the right decision?

There's no such thing as bad publicity. Thanks Jack.

I don't know what's funnier, your joke or the fact that people believed that you would make a dramatic short about struggling female fly fishers.

Bet you people are checking to see if Spielberg is really making a film called Broadcast.

Reserving post for BTS, etc.

I don't know...sounds like some great possibilities here...especially if we're talking hard-R. :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Actually, I bet someone like Robert Redford could make a bang up film about women fly fishers, but it could SO easily go the other way.

i got it when you posted on Leo thread. man it's amazing how these here people don't get the jokes......................must be young..............

Jack Daniel Stanley
12-17-2006, 04:25 PM
haha, I think they are just skimming the thread - see that I'm entering (which once again - I'm not) and just post "welcome" or whatever.

I did just get PM from a MOD saying basically "you aren't really naming your entry THAT after one of the two other guys just gracefully changed the name of his film?"

So I'll take my banner down in a day or two and add bold letters to the first post saying it's all a little December Fools joke, heh heh.

This looks like a gripping film- can't wait to see it. The title just grabs me and says that this will be one to watch - great concept and originality to boot! Are you going to shoot it on the DVX, or are you going to use your new HVX?

;)

Jack Daniel Stanley

I think this one will be shot in pixelvision.

235 Studios

ooo, pixelvision - increasing the challenge level for yourself I see. I take it you will be using the PXL-2000 then. Will you be using the 300 or the 305 deluxe version?

Out of curiosity, Why aren't you going to enter any more contests?

Oh, and great joke.

I can't believe you're entering again. And on top of it you're stealing not one (1) but two(2!) names from other people on this forum. It is a real disgrace considering your much taller than most DVXr's, and older, and richer. Plus, you're a man of leisure. Why don't you leave these contests alone and quit mucking them up with all of your talent.
My 2cents.

Out of curiosity, Why aren't you going to enter any more contests?

Oh, and great joke.
While Joe (conrad) is joking, if you read between the lines you can sort of guess.
I've entered every DVXuser Fest since they'v been a bit bigger of a contest (All 4 over the last year) and I've done very well. So I would attribute that as
reason 1: "been there done that and people are getting sick of me" some folks resent the amount of attention I get due to my batting average and I think they have a point actually.
reason 2: would be, my girlfriend will probably move out if I do another one right now (not really but she'd be pissed). I'm a freelance hustler and I don't work much if at all during a 6 week or longer period surrounding the film. After Horror Fest I had to work my ass off big time to pay Oct, Nov, and December rent all in one month (and that's New York Rent with a capital "R"). Also the filming just really disrupts our lives since we have small place and limited resources and I do a lot of the work myself and she hates working on movies when I need her help, which I always do.
reason 3: I don't have a really really really good idea for a short.
reason 4: (and most importantly) I should be (and am) focusing on my first feature (click the green "THIS" in my signature for details)

So that's basically it.

Now while I have said I've "retired" from DVXuser fests, I have never said "never again"

If I suddenly come up with an idea that I'm nuts about that can be shot in a weekend with virtually no preproduction in a documentary or cinema verite style then I might even enter this one. But the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Also if/when somebody comes close to beating my record it will be very hard not to suit up once they are within one contest of tieing me and throw my hat in the ring.

Wise decisions Jack... I've reluctantly stepped down from doing my own dramafest entry, as I am trying to focus on Smuggler's and a feature project I'll be hopefully working on this summer... sometimes you have to prioritize...

It is truly something to be grateful for to be in a position to have these choices. I am probably not too far out of the lines to think that 99% of the world is not in a position like we are to devote time, money and energy to our creative pursuits. It is definitely a privilege and a gift to have a creative voice. How we use our voices is what is important.

Good reasons behind the 'retirement'. I kind of figured it would be reasons along those lines but wasn't positive, so I figured i'd ask. You made some good videos and I'm sure everyone will miss seeing them in the fests.

I understand w/ the whole girlfriend thing, mine hates whenever I do anything video related and refuses to help.

Goodluck with the full length you're working on.
