Guys
I found a 933mhz G4 mac for sale. The guy says it runs FCP fine and that he can install any other program from MAC that I want. It comes with a keyboard and mouse so I'll have to buy a monitor. He's asking about 600$
What do you think . Thank you , Thank you.

That' far too expensive.
It will run FCP ok for DV and DVCPRO HD, but when you consider that a mac mini goes for 599 it's a no-brainer.
With both computers (the mini and the G4) you'll have problems with the newest FCS (which you want) because of the lack of accepted GPUs.
I'd pay 150$ max for this computer.

Too expensive. 250$ max - delivered.
Remember the Mac Mini is still 599$ on your door - and it is MUCH faster.

Sorta. If you get all those lisences (with all paperwork and install disks) in original, it is worth it - especially if you get it before Dec 20th so you can upgrade FCP. But make sure you get the latest and not what is already upgraded.
But if the software is just on the HD - P2P is as legit and good.
The hardware is not worth the request.

Should I just go for a mac mini , The only thing is that FCP is so expensive. That the other computer just seems worth

What I mean is that if you don't get the disks and registration material with the software, the lisences are not yours and besides the obvious legalities, you cannot upgrade them.
If they are legit, there is a deadline to upgrade FCP to the newest version the 20th (sarch the threads).
The mini is a faster computer than the G4, but there's a couple of catches.
It will only run universal version of FCS AND it does not have a GPU.
SSo: If you get legit upgradeable software copies with that machine, it is the cheapest. If not... You still have to look some.

So what your saying is that If I get legit software and I tell him to upgrade to the newest version that this is a decent deal. ?
Also what version is it now that you can upgrrade to ?

Yep, but you should be the one who upgrade (And check the lisence you get with apple prior to paying if it's not the latest software, as it may well already have been upgraded).

Just checked Guns and he doesnt have the disc's there only software. And he said he cant do the upgrade for me and buying will be close to the 20th for me to do it. Is the upgrade reallly worth it I mean he already has HD on there.
You will HAVE to have the upgrade to work with P2 material, PERIOD!
Dump this machine, it's trash, you'll have nothing but nightmares with it.
NEVER take an FCP system without the full set of original install disks and manuals. NEVER! You'll kick yourself for a long, long time if you do. Trust...
