I've gotten some footage from a studio that was shot on the hvx. I need to export it at full resolution for some compositing work in combustion. It seems like no matter what size or format i export it in, it always appears stretched, and/or letterboxed. the footage is HD, so i'm guessing 960x720... or is it 1280x720? what is the correct way to export this footage out of FCP? I'm super lost on this one. help!

All HD formats (other than HDV 720p) use nonsquare pixels, so you need to expand them using the proper pixel aspect ratio. For 720p DVCPRO-HD, yes it's recorded as 960x720, and if you want to export it in the square-pixel aspect ratio you'd need to export it as 1280x720. Or work with Combusion at a 1.333:1 pixel aspect ratio?

To creat Quicktime files for posting to the web I've been having to customize the export settings, manually figuring out the right ratios... is there a better way?
Is there a better way? Yeah. Get someone else to do the math for you. Kidding. That's just how things are done.
