Hey guys,
Just got my HVX camera, and the exterior door to the tape bay seems like it's not on correctly, but not sure. Maybe it's normal?
I can push my finger on the door, and push it toward the camera enough that it *taps* when it hits the body of the camera.
HELP! Is there something wrong with my new baby?
Thanks!

I am nterested in the answer you will get since that door seems the mechanically weekest link in the design because the strap to hold the cam is only attached to the door and not to the camera body (so all the force is put on the door mechanism)

Mine is loose as well !... from day one. Bought it four months ago. I haven't had time to have someone look at it, actually afraid to loose the camera for repair. Works every day. Anyone else having this problem??

The door is separate from the tape mechanism itself, so loose tolerances in the door aren't indicative of potential problems when using a tape in the HVX200.
And yes, the door on my HVX200 also has some play in it.
Mine does the same from day one, 7 months ago too. Hasn't troubled me but never liked the fact that it did it and might enter the sound recording. Hope Jan or Barry stop by and tell us normal or not.

Mine has it too. It seems like the strap should go someplace else but there aren't really any other options (could be wrong). What of it? The only way you should one-hand this camera is with the handle on the top, if at all. The tape door is not meant to take that kind of stress.

Hi,
There is a little play on the door, it should be just fine. Mine does a little tap as well.
Best,
Jan
Thanks as always Jan. I hope all is well with you.

Just got mine a couple of days ago and its the same. Only reason I can see why the strap attaches to the door is because if went past the door to the body, the door wouldn't open all the way without putting allot of slack in the strap. But since most people probably don't even use tape with it I would rather have the strap on the body...

maybe some tape between the play will help avoiding the "little tap" and probably (lacquer) damage???.

I found this post and I feel the same way about my tapping door... there has to be something that Pana can suggest as a good way to end the tapping noise...
Jan can you make someone in Pana find a common product that could be purchased perhaps at an Office Depot or such that could be glued to a particular part of the camera to stop this noise?
Does this sound OCD or would anyone else like this too?
Maybe Barry has a solution?

Wow I never noticed that ether... I actually had to go press that little blue button...mine has a light tap but nothing I wouldnt recognize as normal, I was surprised that the strap is connected to the door only, strong!
I think it depends on the type of use because I rarelly use that hand held ether, mostly tripod. However I could definatly imagine that sound driving some nuts!

maybe a thin piece of draught-excluder along the the entire door opening will prevent the tapping sound (it pwill also prevent dirt comming into the tapemechanism). just my $0.02

Yes, something like that, but it would be nice if the guys from panny took a quick look at it...
Does anyone hear anything else, I have a tapping sound that might be comming from the base of the lens and happens when I tilt the camera up and down...
if I shake it lightly foward and back it will do it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Drogar-Mad(DBG):

That is normal. It even says it is in the manual. Turn it on and it goes away.

 Yes, it is normal, and it is mentioned in the manual!
I called Panasonic a little while ago. It its a component of the lens motors or something like it and it only does that while the camera is off...
Now about the door... it could be a problem in very few situations... first of all it needs to be super quiet AND the mic needs to be positioned and to be such iself that would pick up the soft tapping... I suspect that if this became a problem for a particular shot it would be easily solved with a bit of paper tape holding it in place... though I also like the idea of getting a small piece of draught excluder cut to size and kept handy...
(Disclaimer: I just got own HVX yesterday and I am OCD)

I'm about the get the hvx and from what I get from reading all these articles is that the p2 cards are like 16 minutes for 720p FR HD? Instead of wasting my money on these small p2 cards can I get a simple Lacie drive 250 gigs and run the firewire to the drive with a battery pack or something?? is this possible so I can have 250 gigs and just dump that on the labtop....as oppossed to wasting shooting time with dumping the p2 card and going back and forth with that.???
help me out on what I should get. cheaply

You can get a Firestore right now but they aren't cheap. The Cineporter looks to be the way to go but we are still waiting for a release date. Look at page 84 of your manual an it shows you how to connect an external FW drive that is powered so you can offload your footage. But you still have to shoot to P2 cards first.

The Cineporter also won't be cheap -- in fact, it likely will be more expensive than a Firestore.
