Any opinions yet on which tape stock is the best to use with this camera?

Same. When I first got the A1 I had a bunch on my desk for the DVX. Never an issue.

And, I assume, just like with the DVX, once you pick a tape stock you sould stick with it, right? No switching between, say, Sony and Panasonic.

That's what they say.... I've never switched since I first got my DVX, I've been using these tapes.

By the way, have you had any experience with Sony tapes? I was a PD-150 guy for a while, using Sony tapes and a Sony deck, so when I got the DVX100A I continued to use Sony tapes and almost never had a problem with 'em. Because I'll probably be taking the plunge with the A1 by next week, was wondering whether I should switch to the Panasonic MQ's. Any thoughts?

I've never understood the logic when people say "Don't switch between tape brands/types."

What's not to understand. Different brands use different lubricants. Mix the different lubricants and make some glue.

Is this actually true, or is this just something that everyone is told when they first buy a camera, so they repeat it to everyone else without having ever seen confirmation? On my GL2, I mainly used Sony Premium DVM60PRL, but I also used many TDK "Superior Grade" DVC tapes, and a few Fujifilm tapes. I've never had any problems with the camera or with dropouts.
I have a bunch of the Sony Premium tapes left, will they be fine for recording with my A1 when it arrives in three days?

They will work fine. Just continue to use them.

In about 260 hrs I've had exactly two dropouts with my dvx and Sony Premium tapes. That's what's going in my A1.
