Hi there,
I live in PAL land (if that makes any difference?)
I don't currently own any version of FCP. I want to get the latest version though... what is the cheapest way for me to do this? I know there are various upgrade options available which may make it cheaper.
Cheers

The cheapest "way" is to find someone that no longer needs their legal licensed copy and buy it from them. So try local film/video forum boards and the like to see if anyone is selling gear and the associated software and licenses. Just make sure that you're getting all the legal stuff there (the physical licenses and the like).
The upgrade you're talking about is if you own FCS 5.0 and want to upgrade to the universal binary FCS 5.1 (which all should do). Then, if you post mark your disc and payment by December 20, 2006, Apple will sell you the FCS 5.1 discs and license at a very affordable price. So again, if you can find someone that no longer needs FCS and has 5.0, if they sell that to you cheap you could then quickly apply for the upgrade.
Otherwise, FCS costs what it costs and you'll just have to bear the brunt of the cost if you actually want the software. Considering all that you get with it now its not that bad of a price. I know its not cheap, but if you're using it as a legitimate business tool its not too difficult to recouperate your costs. Good luck.
cheers.

You must find a dealer who sell an old version of motion (the cheapest standalone component of the suite). You can find one in an "not that much specialized" resseller.
Once you own a legal license of motion, you can ask for a crossgrade to Apple, an you will receive the complete suite.
Motion 2 : 270 Euros + Crossgrade : 199 Euros = the whole stuff for less than 500 Euros.
And it's all legal (but whitout books) : the deal of the year !!!
And if not, you can still go for Final Cut Express, more and more close to FCP
Good luck

Bought Final Cut Studio 5.1 Universal from Ebay in the end, cost me £525
Apparently it's "never been opened".
The seller had a 100% feedback rating and around 100 sales to his name.
